NARROW DEFEAT FOR MEGA MIS AGAINST USC TROJANS IN FIRST PRESEASON MATCH IN MYKONOS
In their first preseason game ahead of the 2023/24 season, the basketball players of Mega MIS faced off against the NCAA team of the University of Southern California (USC) in Mykonos and suffered a close defeat of 73-76 (21-13, 15-19, 21-21, 16-23). The team led by Marko Barać held the lead for most of the game, but the USC Trojans managed to overturn the score in the fourth quarter and secure the victory in a tense finish. Omercan Ilyasoglu had a shot to tie the game in the final seconds, but it wasn’t successful.
The powerful center Uroš Plavšić had an impressive returning debut, ending the match with 23 points. The talented Turkish point guard, Ilyasoglu also debuted for Mega MIS and scored 13 points, followed by Andrija Jelavić with 11 and Stefan Miljenović with 10 points.
The Mega MIS team took control in the first quarter after three-pointers from Jelavić and Ilyasoglu, finishing the first quarter with an eight-point lead. The opponent threatened a couple of times during the second quarter, attempting to catch up, but Barać’s players managed to maintain their advantage and went into halftime with a four-point lead.
A similar situation emerged after the break. A fierce battle ensued, and Mega, with Plavšić’s strong performance, held onto the lead. However, the game entered a suspenseful ending, with the Trojans managing to turn things around. Ilyasoglu had the opportunity to tie the game in the final seconds, but the ball didn’t find its way into the basket. Kobzistij collected an offensive rebound but failed to convert a floater, resulting in a victory for the University of Southern California.
