MISTAKES AND INJURIES COST MEGA TO MUCH!

Players from Mega Leks played another exciting and uncertain match with Crvena zvezda. Team of Dejan Milojevic provided a brave game and very strong resistance to the current champion of the regional competition, but the problem with the defensive rebounds and turnovers in the decisive moments cost Mega defeat at the start of the ABA league – 76:70.

 

Mega Leks played very good defense in the first quarter as evidenced by the fact that Zvezda has made only 9 points in the first 10 minutes. Mega entered the game ready to play the league much more experienced rivals, but such access and great fighting spirit enabled Mega Leks that in the first half on two occasions gain 11 point lead after Nikolic and Ivanovic points. In the finish half Ivanovic twisted the wrist but returned to the game in the second half. Lead of Mega it could have been bigger if it they managed to reduce the number of turnovers.

 

However, in the third quarter Zvezda was able to reach egal but Zagorac and Nikolic held Mega in the game. At the beginning of the last quarter and the home team took the greatest advantage (57:49).Mega answered immediatly with series of 9:0 at took advantage back. Mega resisted succesfull, but much larger experience of domestic players in the finish came to light, with injuries Jankovic and Zagorac. Problems with turnovers in the transmission and bad rebounding which allowed red and white team offensive rebounds in the decisive moments, they decided the winner.

 

In the second round of the ABA league, which is scheduled for Sunday at 5 pm, Mega Leks in Sremska Mitrovica welcomes Partizan.

 

Danilo Nikolic: “We showed that we can play on an equal footing with the champions. If you want something more,  zou cannot have quarter like it was this third. I hope that we have learned the lessons from this match as follows match with Partizan and we are preparing now for that. “

 

Dejan Milojevic: “Congratulations Zvezda for win. We had the opportunity, playing aggressively and well in the first half. Incomprehensible we fell in the third quarter, we were defending ourselves from the Crvena zvezda defense and we were not aggressive enough. When such a game, there’s not a chance against Zvezda. We made it, and it at one point to overcome, returned the game tied the game, but we had no strenght. Each contact in the defense were free throws down our defenses and Zvezda deservedly won. The main problem is that we got hurt three players, Zagorac hand, Ivanovic and Jankovic ankles.  The first forecast is not very promising, and the question is whether it will play, which is a major problem in view of the schedule at the start of the ABA league. “
